2006 Utah Closed Results

 

Randy Zumbrunnen won the Utah Closed Championship, held 20-21 October, with a score of 3 1/2 out of 4.  Tyler McIntosch, Tony Chen and Enrique Arce-Lareta tied for 2nd place with a score of 3.  There were two major upsets.  Enrique beat Jeff Phillips in a time scramble when Jeff slipped in to a fork, after which Enrique cleaned up.  In the first round Adam Mielke played a brilliant sacrifice against Damir Trtanj and won a solid game against the second highest player in the tournament.

 

As with last year, Damian Nash had some fun chess problems for us to solve.  We'll post these later without solution.  (If I can figure them out, so can you.  My favorite is the last, which was also the easiest.)
