PowerChess is excited to announce the 2023 POWERCHESS Scholastic State Chess Championship to be held at the Copperview Recreation Center in Midvale, UT on May 6, 2023 from 9:00AM – 2:00PM. We expect this championship event to be a fun and spirited opportunity for students and schools across the state to come together to compete in an over-the-board state chess championship.

 

Sections are divided by age group 7&Under, 9&Under, 12&Under, and Over 12. Prizes will be awarded to the top players and school teams in each section. School team championships will be based on the top 4 players’ scores in each respective section, a three-player minimum is required to be eligible for team prizes. Early bird registration begins now and will be discounted at $30.00 until 11:59 PM on April 14, 2023. Thereafter, the registration fee will increase to $40.00 up until registration closing at 8:30 AM on Saturday, May 6th. Participants may register onsite after 8:30 AM but will have a first-round bye. This policy has been implemented to ensure a prompt to start the PowerChess Championship event.

 

US Chess Federation membership is required to participate in this tournament. The US Chess Federation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and the governing body for all major chess tournaments hosted in the United States. PowerChess is grateful to be an affiliate of USCF and help promote its vision for promoting chess to students across the United States. For PowerChess’s tournament to be rated and affiliated with the USCF, each participant must have a youth membership to the USCF.
